Advice on becoming a Sound Engineer

Hey Everyone,
My name is Shawn, and i am currently a student. I am instrested in getting into the music industry. I have experience as a live sound technincian for my church. I have been doing that for now going on 6 years. Some of my dreams are to get into the industry and one day open my own recording studio, tarketing major labels and major singed acts. However, i need some major advice and gudience to achieve my goal/dram. I am extremely familuar with all of the technical side of the industry, as well as, i am going to be majoring in business. If there is anyone who would be willing to give me some advice on how that i could achieve my goal/dream would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Shawn

I think having made one post you can hardly say he has spent a lot of time on here, so that's not really good advice is it? He should be encouraged to chat in places like this AND go out into the world to meet people. I know many people have made great friends and partnerships through the internet.

yes, i agree, and you have to excuse me for yesterdays post of mine, i was a bit drunk after a long day, and just rambling on because i had my first chance yesterday to be assistant to sound for a fashion show (ok, big deal, Blaak) so i was in the (drunken) frame of mind that i was much better, when in fact, i was doing the same as him before... so my excuses to "thebestever" and whoever else i might have offended in any way.

truely, advice is always good, from any source, as long as its constructive, and the internet is indeed one of the better source for advice. what i basically meant to say is take some good advice (like my "find gigs and such" advice) and go out and try and apply it, than get more advice and do the same.

Blaak that's great, and well done with the gig, hope you get more on the backend of that one.

icon_confused.gif my advise to you would be, aviod being a drunk, then your likely to become more than an audio assistant at a fashion show having a bad day giving poor advise. Learn as much about the basic equipment, mixers to outboard gear and sound frequencies along with mix structures. Sit down and study great recordings until you can identify and reprduce some of the techniques used to achive those sounds. Never stop updating your knowledge. Good luck.
