I have a recording project in Cubase SX3 that when I play it i get all these clicky noises that sound like my CPU is being overloaded, however the CPU meter remains at about 30%. I've realized that this has something to do with my internal hard drive (7200RPM Segate Baracuda SATA 3.0gbs) because when I run the exact same project off of my external USB hard drive the problem goes away. This seems backwards to me because i thought the internal drive would have better performance than the USB. I'm using windows XP SP2 If that matters. I've tried changing my audio buffer but that doesn't seem to help (Edirol UA-25).

Running off your external drive has better performance as it uses a separate read/write head to read/write data. So you can have 1 HDD Working on Applications and 1 HDD Working on Audio Files.


As for the "Clicks" this usually indicated a Hard Disk malfunction. This occurs when Physical disks inside the HDD are damaged and causing the read/write heads to bounce. i Recommend a new HDD to correct the error or risk losing all your data.
