Final equalization before mastering.

This post is intended to get everyone into a discussion in what to listen for before mastering.

What do you all want to accomplish before you send the final mix to the master?

Do you eq each individual track, or do you eq the mix as a whole? What do you look for in a rough draft mix?

I guess I am a fan of completely flat eq before mastering. I boost nothing.

I do my mixing by choosing what needs to be in front of the mix and what needs to be further away, and then I eq accordingly. I send the final mix totally flat.

I mix to about -6 DB before mastering, to give the guru engineer a ton of headroom to work with.

What are your thoughts?
