Wiring for Audio-technica head-worn mic

Hi,

I just picked up an Audio-technica head-worn mic wireless setup on ebay which needed a "simple repair". I understand that the unit, which is labelled "PRO8HE" contains a condenser mic capsule which is powered from the wireless transmitter unit.

Having replaced the unipak 4- pin plug and socket I found that it still didn't work - I'd tested the transmitter using another input source btw. and it was fine.

So I started to dismantle the mic boom unit itself. In doing this I accidentally snapped off the yellow and red mic leads - which I later discovered were "audio" and "bias voltage" respectively.

Knowing nothing about mic wiring AND in the absence of the shield wire in the capsule unit, I simply soldered the red and yellow wires to the two terminals on the mic capsule. Nothing!

Having read a lot of stuff on the internet my feeling is that both red and yellow leads should go together to one side of the mic and the shield wire should go to the other side (if I can dig it out somehow - maybe have to run a wire outside the boom and forego shielding along the boom).

I've also read that a resistor and a capacitor need to be included in this arrangement BUT I'm assuming that this will have been anticipated and taken care of inside the transmitter box.

You're probably think; "why doesn't he just try it out and see?" Well I guess I will but I find that I can only really think these things through by asking the questions in this way - it really is so helpful.

Anyway, does it make sense? Do you have any suggestions that might be helpful.

Thanks!

Mike
