 M Audio Nova CondensoMic and M audio fast track USB problems

Hi

I have just purchased a M Audio Fast track USB for guitar and microphone. Also purchased a M Audio Nova Condensor microphone. My guitar sounds great through the USB box on the headphones, but I'm unable to get any sound at all from the Nova mic. Any help would be appreciated.

Does the Nova need a preamp?
