Yamaha UX16 USB Device problem

 Yamaha UX16 USB Device problem

I recently purchased the Yamaha MIDI UX16 cable to plug my PSR295 keyboard into my PC
It's all set up right and all plugged in right - I'm sure and I've double checked, but i still have a problem.

I am using Anvil Studio, and when i try to record a track, it looks like it is recording but when i play it nothing has actually been recorded (or is not playing).
it is not the settings, because the MIDI In and MIDI Out are set up right (at least they say they are) and everything looks like it's working.
But if i try to record something from my PSR295 and then play it back i get nothing.

Can anyone help? Why isn't it recording?
