MXL 990 problem?
My set up is as followes
cool edit pro 2.0
behringer eurorack UB802 mixer
MXL 990
I was recording last night and my producer said he heard a click.
Now, the computer is barely getting any feedback from the mic. I need to yell to get anything.
Also half my mic sounds rediculously muddy and muffled while the other half sounds absolutely fine other than the computer doesn't pick up like anything. Ive tried both channels on my mixer and got no results.
please tell me what i should do. thanks

more details
It's difficult for anyone to make a diagnosis with teh info that you have given.
Was everything working fine before?
How are you connected to your computer (firewire, usb or stereo jackplug)?
Which of the mixer's outputs ae you using to feed your computer?
Have you engaged the phantom power switch?
Is the mixer meter registering a signal?
Try to be more specific

I was thinking phantom power also.
I've used MXL-990's and after about a 15 minute "warm up" they quiet down and work fine.
More info. _________________ Scott McKinney

Is the MXL plugged into input 1? and is the Phantom Power switch pressed (on most mixers, there is a little light that illuminates which says "+48 db" )
More info needed means simple things like this:
Is the volume on the mixer turned up? What software are you using? What are you PC specs? Are you sure the microphone works? Are you cables working?

alright
i was using it for a good 3 hours, it was warm
It was plugged into the first input thing but i tried both and substituted all the wires. I went to guitar center and they said it was fucked up 2 so i dunno, nothing changed when i was using it but after that click, it just sounded like shit

MXL990 -> Eurorack (make sure +48 is on, check both gain and input fader levels).
Now what method are you using to get signal from the Eurorack to the PC? I'll assume that since you didn't list any specific audio hardware, you are using a standard built-in sound card. If this is the case, you should be using the Line input of the sound card. Now the line input is stereo, so you'll want a cable that splits an 1/8 inch stereo miniplug into two 1/4 inch mono jacks. Now, check the audio settings on your computer (through the operating system, not Cool Edit). Make sure volume levels are turned up there.
Then open Cool Edit Pro and try things out.
Any help so far?
Now what do you mean by half the sound is good and half is muffled? And you mentioned a click. Does it sound good before the click and bad after it? This sounds like it may be a buffering issue. You may need to raise your audio buffer in Cool Edit.
Lets start with this and see how it goes.

Also double click the speaker icon on your task bar and make sure the pc onboard mixer is also turned up. nothing muted. _________________ Scott McKinney
