Hello, I am currently trying to build a professional-quality recording studio. The vocal recordings will be primarily over computerized beats, (not much recording of live-instruments). I basically want to know everything I need, including an itemized list (ie... computer, mic,) or whatever the case is. This will be an in-home recording studio, where a professional engineer will come to handle the equipment. It will primarily be used to record female vocals (R&B style) or male rap vocals. Any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated on everything I need, as I'm trying to price things out. I want all top of the line stuff, but I do not want to buy unneccessary things. So please give me an itemized list (soundproofing.... computer... mic... preamp... keyboard...) And if there is a specific product u reccommend for my purposes, I'm definitely open to getting reccomendations about that... and of course if you do know pricing info, that'd be great too but not necessary. Right now I'm really looking for an itemized list of what i'll need, and I can try to find pricing info on my own if necessary. Thanks guys!

What kind of budget are you on? My keyboardist and I just built an in-home studio for about 5 grand, but we were on a tight budget so we made some sacrifices in the way of some of the equipment (PC instead of MAC for instance). Let me know what your budget is and I'll see what I can put together for you. It also depends on the room your planning on putting it in (dimensions, material makeup, etc...). Give us some details man!!!! But yeah, give me some of those details and I'll see what I can throw together for you.

Budget: We'd like to keep it in around $20,000 but a little more or less isn't gonna kill us. We DEFINITELY won't go over $30,000 but we're not going to pinch pennies if there's anything that will be THAT Much better.

The Space: Right now we're working with a clean slate. We have an unfinished basement that needs finishing... (We're not including that in the budget because someone in the family is doing it for free.) It is about 24ft long by 14 ft wide.... And can have up to 8ft ceilings, and I can finish it the best way (if i only knew what the best way was!)

I will be pretty much just recording vocals, and thats about it... so I need a really great set up to record r&b/hiphop/pop music!

Check out this gear it would make a strong vocal only set up.

Mac G5 (the higher the processer the better)
Protools HD (1, 2, or 3 if its just vocal processing HD 3 might be a little much)
Digidesign 96 i/o
Daking Pre amp
Tube Tech Compressor
Neumann U87 (the M148 or M150 are also really good)
Yamaha NS-10s (for referance)
Genelec 1032A

This is all really good equipment that should give you a good sound and be close to your budget. Good luck.
