A sound card for my laptop

Hi,

Can somebody tell me if is possibly to put a good sound card in to a laptop? Mine is a brand new with Pentium dual core, 2 GB RAM, etc. and also the best brands for it?

I need it for rehearsal and live performance. I normally use PC but never laptops.

Thanks

I know you asked ages ago but your laptop is likely to be equipped with a decent enough sound card judging by the other specs - and yes it is possible to put a soundcard in - take it to a computer shop and ask them to do it for you (check the implications this has on your warranty)

Are you looking to get sound "In" or "Out" or both?

I have and Indigo DJ card that gives me 4 channels out. Indigo also makes an I/O card with 1 stereo in and 1 stereo out. Called Indigo I/O (catchy)

If you want to experiment, while I'm not whipped on Behringer stuff, I picked up a UCA202 USB 2.0 external sound device at Guitar Center for $29.
Nice and quiet. Works as advertised. Was inexpensive and if it breaks...I only spent $30. Good to throw in the 'ole gigbox for an emergency.
Also has headphone out.

well, i have a very recent hp laptop, which i use to mix, mostly, and sometimes record depending... anyhow, i have firewire input on it, and i had already in my possession the M-Audio FW1814 interface, which is firewire, therefore, all was made easy for me. so i didnt have to modify the laptop itself, just connect the audio interface and i was good to go.
