Parallel compression

Whats up, everyone? I've become a fan of using parallel compression on drums (esp. snare and kick), but I was wondering if anyone here has tried it on bass guitar. My plan is to take a direct signal from the bass amp and mic the cab with an AKG d-112. I'm gonna experiment with full-range direct signal and compressed mic signal and vice-versa. FATNESS WILL PREVAIL!!!

Thanks for your opinions!
