Bass (LFE) Sound Effects

Anybody got tips on producing some real nice strong subsonic sounds?

I have Adobe Audition.

Perhaps suggested settings, tools or some real life objects to record and work with.

The only bass i've managed to do so far was taking a gunshot and bringing it into the dynamic EQ tool and putting at a 55hz frequency at a low pass setting. Applying that to all the other sounds i've recorded or worked with doesnt produce the same effect.

The thing is in order for E.Q. to work there has to be some of the frequency you wish to boost present.. 55Hz is fairly low and not all of your sound samples might have frequencies as low as that to begin with. If the fundamental note is not 55Hz (in this case) or lower no amount of E.Q. will put it there.

move yo body to the bass

I have a simple guitar amp simulator that came with cakewalk home studio. It's pretty cheezy and I don't use it for guitars, but rather my bass guitar and kick drum. First i run an EQ plugin that boosts the desired low frequency (usually 50-80Hz) by like 8-10dB with a somewhat narrow Q (probably about 1). Then I run it through the amp sim (making other fine adjustments with gain and eq there) and the sound is pretty fat. I don't go for much distortion, but just enough gain to give it edge and evenness. I used it on some Christmas songs I did last year. You can hear samples on the 'demo' page of my website. http://www.geocities.com/toeball74

I got this idea from trying to figure out how to make an effect similar to the RBass plugin for ProTools.
