I am a sound production student in Scotland, in the middle of a project recording an Oasis style rock band.
Part of this project is to research the role of the recording engineer.
Could anyone please inform me of the day to day roles of a recording engineer, what tasks are undertaken on a daily / weekly basis?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

the role of engineer is to capture what the producer is asking for or invisions. if the engineer is also the producer he is to help the artist/s feel as comfortable as possible to ensure he/she has the best takes that you can capture. The engineer sets up mics or usually has an assistant set up and move mics in different place to capture what sound he/she is trying to aquire. Mic selection is also an important part of engineer for the simple fact that you want to capture want you want to mix to tape if you understand what I am saying.(when the time comes to mix little processing should have to been done via eq). i hope this helps a little
