Kick Drum Miking
Greetings! I am trying to mic a kick drum and I would like to know the preferred method of doing so. I want the best sound possible. Should I leave the front head on of take it off? The front has a mic hole in it, but I know some engineers take the head off. Thanks.

Most common method: Stick a large diaphragm mic (dynamic) on the inside through the hole. Leaving the head on is fine, or you can take it off if you want to. Then put a small diaphragm mic in the outside of the head, or a bit further back from the drum. Use the LDM for low end, and the SDM for attack.
Fairly standard, but by no means should that be your only option.

Uncle I can help thinking you've got things back to front here, surely the close mic should be used for the attack and the mic outside used for the sub?
I will try you technique out.
