MY MAJOR??
Hey guys! I'm currently a high school student in Texas. I'm in orhcestra. I play guitar, violin, and piano, and am in a band. I really want to be a recording/audio engineer and mix and produce music. What should I major in when I go to college? I'm looking at going to a state school in Texas, say A&m or any others. I'm really open to ideas. Anyone have any?

I don't know what your state schools can offer for majors, but I'm looking at majoring in Music Production at McNally Smith College of Music. Of course an all music school and state colleges aren't quite the same...I know McNally also has Recording engineer majors as well as all the performance and business majors...if you can find a school with those kind of majors it'll make your decision a little easier. _________________ Cody Coppess

Definitely check with the local college music departments and see what they have. Out here in California, the local community colleges have complete recording engineering programs, as well as live music. I'd also look into electronics as a minor as when stuff breaks it's nice to know how to fix it.
Other options are to check into Ask Video as they have a complete video series on most recording software, etc. That's something you can do now. I'd also look at book stores and pick up some recording engineering texts as it's never too early to get started.
If there's a recording studio in your area, check to see if they are accepting interns. Nothing better than to be sitting in a studio watching what's going on and seeing what the engineers recommend for texts.
