Field recording
Hello!
I just came across this forum and have found it very interesting, glad to see a place like this with so many people willing to help with various kinds of advice.
I want to get into studio engineering and recording, and I'm looking into schools right now, but I have a question about something that I haven't seen any reference to in my research so far, and I'm wondering if someone here can help.
Is there a specific profession within the field(s) of audio recording and engineering that is centered around making live field recordings of rare types of music from all over the world? In other words....
You know how sometimes you come across audio recordings of some type of exotic or very old, very rare form of music from some remote area of our planet that appears to have been recorded for the sake of documentation, placement into a catalogue or library of an institution that studies and teaches music history, etc... Who are the people that go to these locales and make these recordings? Is there a career opportunity or job title for such a person?
I mean, how does one make a living travelling the world recording rare music? I'm assuming you start with engineering education...
