Hi

I have a couple of projects to record in a nice sounding room. I'll be recording each instrument seperately, drums first, then bass, then keys, then guitar, then vox...

So I'm thinking of buying

Audix D6 for kick (and bass amp)
SM57 for snare (and guitar amp)
Rode NT1,2,3,4,5 for overheads (and ambience/distance mics on guitar/keys and perhaps for vocals too)

But which model of Rode do you people prefer? They all all seem to be of a similar price. 1A , 2, 3, 4 ,5?????

And how much will i need to spend on a hald decent mixer/preamp to match these mics?

For the OH's, the NT-5's are nice, but they run hot, so if you have really nice cymbals (A customs or something of the like) they will peak in a heart beat and they are difficult to get not to. As far as the snare/guitar cab, the SM is always good and the Audix i5 is also a nice mic. The i5 is a little more focused than the SM, picks up the treble a little more. I'm not really familiar with the Audix D6, but a nice mic that works for both bass drum/guitar cab is the Senn e609. If you put the e609 inside the bass drum right next to the batter head it gets a nice pop. That is just my opinion on the mics, we run i5's and SM57's in our project studio, as well as an e609. They work pretty well for multiple applications, not the absolute best you can buy but decent for the price.

NT55 has a -10 db and -2d db pad built in. I've never used them so I don't know the difference in sound.
