Recording fooley
What microphones should I use for recording surrounding sound of any kind? traffic, ambience, footsteps, gravle, wind, etc. I want to pick up daily sound and make it sound as natural as possible. Should I maybe use a combination of mics?

I didn't mean recording "surround sound" by the way.

It depends on if you want the recording to stereo or not. I recorded foley for a friend of mine on a couple of docs he did for college. He wanted the recording to be done in stereo...for example when someone walked across the screen he wanted the sound to move left to right.
You can use 2 mics for that but for the best result try to use matching mics. They also make mics that have 2 capsules in one unit. the problem with that mic is you are not able to split the stereo effect too far apart. IMHO using 2 identical mics are definately way to go. _________________ I am 36 years old. I am disabled, but I am still able to do some mobile recording occasionally.
