Audio Engineering: What will it take?
hey guys
so school's about to start, and its my last year. i've had the goal of becoming a graphics designer, but now i'm having thoughts about becoming an recording engineer. i have some sort of musical experience. i love music to death, and am always around it. i figured why not do something that has to do with music. the only problem is that i have no idea where to start (programs to fool with, becoming more educated with what i want to do). lets just say i'm 0% knowledgable about recording engineer, i have one school year left + summer to learn and think about this. do i have enough time to learn what it takes to go into recording arts school?
it's extreeeeeeeemely stressful because its my last year as well and my parents just make it 10x worse and they're kind of not supporting me on this.
could someone just guide me into the basics/beginner recording engineer
i have about a year and a half experience with drums, i plan to take up bass soon as far as playing an instrument goes.

thoughts/advice - not that my advice should count for much
I wouldn't give up on the graphics design. I wouldn't rule out audio engineering either. It's very possible you could fit into a niche where you can use both fields. Possibly, for example, audio for digital animation (movies/games). You could, of course, still use your recording knowledge for music as well. I'm guessing since music and graphics are your thing, you're probably fairly creative. If you get your foot in the door with one thing, just try and find ways to work in your other interests to your field.

Uncle_jerr is right you could use both fields, however getting into game audio is very very hard if not impossible and the reason being is because game companies usually hire and like to keep their own audio teams. The only easier way would to be hired as a programmer and work your way into the audio field and for the Post Production (movies) you have to have at least a 3.5 gpa in a school because of the patience and knnowledge it takes (ex. you have to know about the industry, about digital and analog audio, and midi sync). Your best bet would to be to go to a recording school. I am almost done and It's amazing how much they teach you but in reality it;s just a base. Start by learning fundamentals of digital audio, about how sound works, ect. otherwise the rest doesn't matter. If you have any question please message me.
