guitar panning ineffective
Hi all...i have recorded 2 mono tracks for guitars and panned them hard left and right. But when i hear my whole mix, the guitars seems to be in the center. I've recorded the guitars in different eq settings but still when i hear my mix, the guitar sounds are dead center. Can someone help me on how to separate the guitar tracks so that they appear left and right and not center? Would it help to say that in both the tracks, the guitars are actually playing exactly the same thing..
Thanks!

Hi there, are the guitars actually playing in the centre of the mix or does it sound like that, if you mute out other tracks , where are they guitars sitting ?. Also it could be something as simple as maybe your effecting the track with a stereo effect, ie: reverb or delay or something so the returns are coming in on both channels.
It's hard to work out exactly whats going on, not knowing the kit your using. ie: pc / tape etc. etc.
hope this helps a little though

hey, thanks for your reply..well it panned hard left and right but sounds in the center, more like the stereo image is in the center. When i mute one of the tracks, then it appears left and right vice verse. Took your advise and cut the reverb a little and it seems to help. Well i'll just have to do some tweaking i guess, thanks for the help anyways..

Is one track just a duplicate of the other, just eq'd differently? Or are they two individual recordings of someone just playing the exact same thing?
Also how does it sound in headphones vs studio monitors?

the only thing i can think of is that they are canceling each other out try panning them abit closer to the center but have one panned slightly harder or if it is the same recording doubled up then do a different recording for each track.
