solid, light/portable, USB (midi) keyboard?

Hi, I'm new to the forums and figured I'd say hi with a question.

I'm looking for a midi controller keyboard for my macbook, preferably USB as I am yet to purchase an input box.. speaking of which, if you can recommend a good portable (cheap) box for personal recording, that too would be great. icon_smile.gif (been looking at the motu and firepod, although the latter is a little too much money/hardware for me atm)

thanks for your time!

midi controller

There are literally hundreds out there - pick a figure you are willing to spend - browse items in your price range - make your choice....

re the recording interface - again there is a huge range out there. Are you particularly interested in firewire devices?

I'm not against firewire. However, do you think I should just hold out until I get a good firewire input box that has audio and midi inputs, so that I don't need an exclusively USB keyboard?

I'm leaning toward usb because I'd like the keyboard asap and my funds are extremely limited atm. However, I can wait icon_smile.gif_ still have the good ol' four track.

edit: would you recommend firewire? (on second reading of your post I wasn't sure if you were for or against)

firewire

It was just that the devices you mentioned are firewire devices - If you're on a tight budget firewire devices tend to be more expensive - that's all. I use a firepod myself - I like it a lot........

Can you get a MIDI keyboard with both USB and standard MIDI connectivity? Just a question..........

Yes you can. A great inexpensive option is MAudio. They have a wide range of lightweight keyboards.
