There are a few different ways to mic a bass drum with an open port but I was wondering how you mic a bass drum that has a solid head. I can only assume that you would mic it pretty much like you would the toms but I was hoping for some input from anyone who may have had more experience with this situation.

yep you can just put a large diaphragm dynamic mic in front of the head. that usually works ok

Typically what I do is if the bass drum has a solid head I just take it off. Then place a mic inside about an inch or so from the batter head to get the nice attack and then one right about where the resonant head would normally have set. I'm not sure how many channels you have to dedicate to the bass drum but you may want to consider a 3rd mic about a foot and half to 2 feet back from the kick for a little bit of room sound as well. Either that or if you need to leave the head on you can mic it like a tom and also try and squeeze a mic close to the batter head side pointed just off the beater.
