matched stereo pairs

Hi there,

I'm thinking of buying a pair of small diaphragm condensers and I want to know is there any advantage of buying a matched stereo pair over two individual mics of the same model?

Gracias

I would say it depends on the application. For example, I have a matched pair of RODE NT5, which I use for close range instruments, like an acoustic guitar.

The main reasons to use a matched pair: unless microphones are matched, they (even same models from the same vendor) will have different frequency responses and pickup patterns. this is especially noticeable in stereo recordings, and is a pain in the ass to work with! The stereo image itself will have very irregular patterns. In my limited experience, it takes very little differences in microphones to hear and see this effect.
