If this is posted in the wrong forum I am sorry. i hope someone here will be familiar with the roland 808ex e-mix studio. I recentely acquired one off ebay and am learning to use it. The only way to move samples to the PC is by using a utility from the roland website. However, no matter what I try, vocal effects--reverb, delay, etc--do not transfer to the new .wav file when it's moved to the PC via the utility. I can hear my voice but not with any of the effects. The effects processor is on as well as I have the effects on chanels abcd and mic/lin in any help appreciated...thanks

I am sure this came with a manual, if it didn't, Roland has great customer support and you can get one for little or no effort on your part. In the time it took me to write this somewhat chastising post, I could have probably went to their website and downloaded one.

As far as the effects not being recorded, it is probably a simple setting. IN the tool you downloaded, is there any documentation? Perhaps something in the "How do I" or "troubleshooting" sections. (or whatever it is called)

I hae the manual. But it its above my head. I am struggling to understand it. And the tool did not come with any docs. thanks for the reply though

I'm not trying to be rude, but if you're transferring the files to mix in protools, why not just use those fx plugins?

It's all over my head so I don't take anything as rude Anyway, I am admittedly ignorant when it comes to sophisticated audio equipment. I just know the I follow the instructions for creating a sample. When i play the sample on the machine the effects are added. When I export the sample to the PC as a .wav, the effects are lost.

Right, ok, that's because you're only exporting the sample itself, not the effects. The effects aren't part of the sample. What you'll probably need to do is find a way to either record the original sample with added effects into a new bank on the 808, or run a line out from the 808 in to your computer and record that live right into pro tools.

What i'm trying to do is run the 808 into my mixer now. But it onyl has RCA outs and the RCA ins on the mixer (cd/tape) don't appear very strong and the sound barely reaches my broadcasting application.

going to get some RCA to 1/4" and try using the one of the others lines and see if it helps.

It seems as if you are not mixing down the entire sample with effects. You can also use the Record function to record the entire sample or portion of a song and edit the effects on top of this, and then assign the new portion to a different pad. If you then do a proper mix-down, you should be able to transfer the file. If not, then i would advise you to settle with editing the effects on a seperate software. Besides, this device is for full track recording and playback FOR live sound, and unlike other Roland products from this time period, it has the ability to SAVE what you have produced in a "live" environment with tremendous song-length effect changes.
