Kick Drum Recording

Hi everyone. Inside my kicks I have a Remo foam ring that touches the batter head and a pillow on the bottom of the shell. icon_confused.gif I'm trying to record the best kick sound possible, so should I use the foam ring instead of a pillow or vice versa? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

best sound

Use the ring, the pillow, or both-- whatever gets you the best sound. You are the one in the room with the thing. We can't tell you what to do in this kind of situation, you just have to play with it.
