Top Audio Engineering School??

hello, my name is Ben Christy and I am 16. I am currently very interested in attending a school with a very successful audio engineering program. I'm sure this topic could be controvercial, but I was just wondering what schools are the top for audio engineering. For example like the "Harvard" of audio engineering?

Sorry about the fact that this topic comes up alot icon_redface.gif

Thanks
Ben

Hi Ben,

Please allow me to take a stab at this one by answering your question with a link to a school that I've found. (not sure if location plays a part in your decision, but here it is anyway)

Link: http://www.pacificav.com/audio/audioengineering.html

The school is 'Pacific Audio Visual Institute'. I just recently spent a good 2 months deeply researching and exploring different schooling options and I personally ended up on settling with this school. Ofcourse, the "top-notch" recording school may be different for others including yourself depending on what one might be looking for in a recording education. I myself for example decided that this school was "bar-none" the best school for my needs because of the well rounded curriculum covered. Not only does this school cover important things like theory, plenty of hands on time with up to date gear, instructors that also work in the industry, but this school also dives' into the buisness aspect of profesional recording studios' as well. Like time and money management, royalties, contracts, buisness planning, and developing talent.

Anyway, check it out for yourself with the link above and see i it's right for you.

Another linkt to see that might help is this : http://mixonline.com/education/directory/

There are 3 links there wich are school directories. 1 for eastern schools, 1 for western shools, and a 3rd for central.

Hope this helped answer your question bud.

flawed

The concept of a "top" audio school is completely flawed, it is a meaningless argument.

If you read through some posts you'll see why, so many factors come in to play not least individual learning styles. You will be a completely different learner than say me, and want and need different approaches... this is just one aspect that makes the argument meaningless... are yuo learning for a certificate of love of the subject, are you learning to show people a certificate or proved to yourself... there are many more reasons....

Your question is a bit like "what is the top record of all time" - it simply is not as simple as you might think, you can't tick boxes.

You might go to school that has one old 4 track recorder but with such a motivational teacher that would leave many in the filed standing. It is all relative.

YOU need to ask what YOU need and want.. and then go to it.

very much so. every school has their different qualities. and everyone has different learning techniques, theres really no such thing as the perfect school

Some of the teachers where I go(IAR in manhattan) quit SAE because they were treated like dirt there, they said so many people quit eventually they began hiring people who just graduated as teachers. I'd stay away, especially since they cost so much more.

If you're looking for the "top" school... It's probably Full Sail in Orlando Fl:

http://www.fullsail.com/

It's pricey, but it's an accellerated program. You're "doin' it" 40 hours a week... and out in a year.

look at the conservatory of recording arts and sciences (www.cras.org). the instruction is very fast paced. classes are limited to 12 people. tons of hands on. open 24/7 so you can get even more hands on after school hours. very knowledgable staff. the course is 7 months long, plus two months of internship. it runs about $14,000...

something else to look at.
