Processor performance question
Hi all.... I was wondering what yalls thoughts were regarding processor type. All other parameters being equal, would you choose a P4 w/ HT (hyperthreading enabled or disabled - not sure what the advantage is either way), a Pentium D dual core, or an Athlon 64 X2 dual core.
Thanks in advance!!

No shit sherlock.
Lower end of AMD dual core vs Higher end of Intel Duo Core. Thats like racing a pinto against a mustang. Both are Ford cars..... get the analogy?
Also, what were your specs on the 'old' system? (Besides processor) speed of a comp has many more factors than just the processor.
The reason Athlons are better for music studios and games is because of the pipeline and processor architecture. Not saying Intels are "BAD" just that they have many many more calculations, and a much tighter pipeline than the athlons.
Intel's definitely have an advantage over Athlons in other applications though, like servers and databases.
EDIT: Also, look at the initial question on which processors to compare, instead of just bragging about your comp that is so blistering fast you can't "see" it. Keep in context next time.

Um, for your information the E4300 is the entry level Core 2 duo. It's a dual 1.83.....so get your facts straight before biting my head off mr. i know everything.......what an ass.

Thanks for the info skippy.
In stand alone performance tests on comps with similar hardware (same ram, same FSB, same HD speed etc) , the AMD 3800 X2 SLIGHTLY outperforms the e4300 on the gaming side, although the 4300 GREATLY outperforms the 3800 on multitasking and server / db apps.
As far as getting my facts straight, the e dual core intel processors came AFTER the d series intel duo core (which is what the original poster was asking about) and the 3800 x2 outperformed the d series hands down.
As far as your "1.83" statement, that is a meaningless number since Intel and AMD operate at different frequencies. You can not compare INTEL to AMD by frequency alone.
Lastly, I said to keep in context because the poster did not ask about the e series intel dual core processors, nor did he ask about what your system specs are. BTW, isn't it time you get back to work? You need to make sure my fries are nice and crispy!

I thought this was an informative board about all kinds of products so people can have information about everything that is good for pc recording. Apparently it's just a place for assholes like you that think they know everything can shove their weight around. I was just giving my 2 cents about what i have and how well it does there was absolutely no need for you to post after me and be a complete prick.
