Simulating Distortion Guitars

Hiya everyone.
I would like to simulate a distorted guitar (like in a heavy metal song for example) with midi (or the like), but I'm not sure how to do it.
Me and my friends purchased Guitar rig 2, and one of my friends has a little home studio with Sonar 5 (not sure what version though), and I was wondering if it is possible to simulate a guitar with these two applications. (We have guitars too, but no-one really can play them, that's why we'd need to be able to arrange the guitars with some program)
We are quite able to make the guitars, but midi-sounds don't quite manage the sound we're trying to get icon_smile.gif
So, is it possible to make a good sounding distorted guitar sound with guitar rig and Sonar 5, using no actual guitars? Or do we have to start practising really hard? icon_twisted.gif

Thanks in advance

Not to poke fun, but I got a kick out of your "Sonar 5 (not sure what version....)

Anyway, you can get a good sound from midi, pick a clean guitar sound and apply the guitar rig (or even better, Amplitube) to it as a VST or DX plugin, YOu might be surprised at the sound you get!

Yes! After learning the programs better we were able to get a decent sound out of the guitar. Thanks!

As for the Sonar 5 'version', I was trying to say that I didn't know whether or not it was Producer edition etc. Good you got a laugh though. icon_biggrin.gif

As a guitarist I would say the only way to get a good sounding guitar is by using a guitar and a tube amp. preferably something low wattage so you can turn it up higher
