Hello, i was recently given a Tascam US-122 as a gift. I am a guitarist and have a Shure SM-57 mic, which came with an XLR-6.5mm plug. I have installed the recording software that came with the tascam, which was Cubase LE.

Essentially my problem is with not being able to hear what i have played. Let me explain what i have done so far.

I have set my input device as the Tascam US-122 and kept my output device at my regular soundcard as my speakers are pretty good and i wanted to hear my music though them..... I did the whole simulation test, which had something to do with buffers, and it said that it was all successful.

So i just tried to do a simple 'dummy' test to see if everything was working but i found that i couldn't hear anything coming out of the speakers.

That is my main problem, i can see something was recorded, but i can't play it back.

Now, i am a super novice at this whole recording thing and i am wondering if anyone can tell me if any of the following things are correct or not.

As i said before i am using the xlr-6.5mm plug that came with my mic, i have plugged it into the Tascam us-122 via the line/guitar in plug, because i don't have an XLR (male) to go into the mic input. Could this be a problem? I'm not sure because i don't know if the guitar input is preamped like the mic inputs are?? Do i need to buy an XLR (male) to and XLR (female) plug so i can plug it into the mic preamps. Will this fix my inability to hear what i have played? Is there anything else i can do to ensure my input devide is the Tascam and my output device is my regular soundcard?

First off, in Cubase there is a monitor button (a little speaker that turns yellow when you click it) if this is yellow, this plays back during recording, if it is not highlighted it sounds during playback.

Secondly, IF you see a wave on the recording, press f3, this brings up the mixer. Make sure the track and mix faders are brought up. IF both are up, make sure the outbusses are setup correctly. (Device menu->VST Connections->Output tab) and make sure there is a bus that signifies your outputs.

IF these are all correct, turn on your amp
