Matching 2 sources to 1 set of speakers
Hello,
I am trying to match a typical Ipod stereo (typically 8ohms) to an aviation headset (which has an impedance of 300ohms per ear piece). I want to be able to listen to the airport tower etc, while listening to the Ipod as well.
So do I have to add a amplifier to the Ipod then some how match the impedance? or can this be done without an amplifier?

...when air traffic control gets too boring
LOL
sorry can't help it, but that response was kinda funny.
I don't mean to judge, but (and I assume that you're a pilot, Geeps) is that even legal? Wiring your IPod into your aviation headset?
Anyway, I have no idea how you'd do that without seeing it for myself.

Firstly this is a good question.
If you give me the exact model of your iPOD headphone output I'll tell you if it will work.
Secondly "guys" I'd appreciate you treating people with some respect, all of you. We do not want flaming in any of the threads, sure jokes are fire, but if flaming starts nip it in the immediately.

Thanks for offering your help AC. The model number is MA002LL/A. I thought all outputs from mp3 players would be similar?

Yes I did some time-limited researching and the iPods come shipped with headhones anywhere between 8 to 32 Ohms, which means your flight cans will be extremely quiet and probably without much bass content (also a function of impedance AND probably their frequency response, being designed for speach).
So you need an amp (though that wont improve the frequency response), there are thousands to choose from like these:
http://ipastudio.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=71

However, do check the output impedance on some data sheets, you are looking for a high one.
Hope that helps.
