Wow the MKH Series is pricey. Too rich for my blood. Perhaps the K6 series might suit?
I had originally planned on choosing an omnidirectional mic, but the more I think about it, I think a directional mic may be best. I dont want to capture the room sound, I just solely want the sound of the device i'm trying to record.
Any other suggestions or thoughts anyone?

Don't shotgun mics have to be placed further away to be effective? I mean I can mic the equipment making noise from inches away. Is a shot gun mic really necessary here? And again, that's more than twice the amount I want to spend.
Am I making a bigger deal out of this than I should? I think i've nearly decided on getting the Sennheiser ME 66 short gun mic (w/ the K6-P power module). Anyone see any big problems with this?
Thanks for all your input. I just want to make the best decision I can, ya know?
