 help on setting my preamp

I'm using a Behringer Ultra-voice Digital VX2496...The 5-in-one preamp; it includes the input gain,expander/gate,tube emulation,opto compressor,voice optomized EQ,opto de esser, and output volume (respectively). I don't use the tube emulation or de esser sections. The problem I'm having is vocals clipping during recording.I'm not sure how to set the input gain or the output for the compressor. icon_question.gif
