microphones and direct injection techniques?

Hi, please can someone help me, I am studying Sound Technology in university and have been asked to write a written assignment on organizing the sound for a live stereo broadcast and video recording of a rock band performance in a studio.
The band is bass, drums, keyboards, two guitars, and male vocalist. They are backed by two female and one male vocalist, brass section of two trumpets, one trombone, two alto saxophones (one also playing on flute), and string quartet (two violins, viola, 'cello).

has anybody any ideas of what microphones and direct injection techniques to use?

Thanks

I guess you could then work out which mics will go where and why.
