Analogue Audio

hehe yeah I know what you mean..

non-destructive editing is the way forward, cutting through 24 tracks of analogue audio ain't no joke!

being from the digital generation, i truely really wonder how patient engineers must've been to edit in the "real" analogue days with tape. im a real unpatient guy, but i'd would love one day to try it and see how lucky(?) we actually are to have sequencing and editing softwares nowadays...

Hey there, yeah you really ought to try that, you know it was not that long ago that it really was the NORMAL. I still feel we can learn lots and lots by triyng to edit that old analogue way. Putting some headphones on and rolling the tape with the hands over the playback heads (like digital scrub wheel) really gets you focussed on the waveform and where to edit.

The main difference of course was there was zero visuals, unlike in the digital graphical waveform days.

You can grab old tape machines, and have fun with including them as an effect in your digital set-up.

jog back and forth over the problem spot.

what would mostly annoy me is the cleaning of heads. but the editing, could be a nice thing. i usually close my eyes anyway when listening to a playback to figure where to stop and edit my tracks, and even jog back and forth over the problem spot. so it would be kinda the same thing, except that i have to open them to know where my mouse cursor is... lol i guess there's still a bit of analog feel to the digital realm, could we say...

But there aint no stopping digital!

I suppose it can be more time consuming to edit analog audio. And time is money...
Agree?

Well yes and nowhere near as many editing opportunities.

The argument was not really about one vs the other, rather a sentimental call to those who enjoyed the tacticity of analogue.

I'd rather trim in ProTools anyday, but I did enjoy the blades... it was so permanent.

blade cut...

how does blood sound on tape?

i've heard so many stories of people cutting their finger tips...

is it true that this is where suicidal people took the idea of cutting their veins from...? lol

(dont pay me no mind, just trying to put a smile on our faces)
