Mix engineers mix songs... there's no software that can do that any more than s/w can write a song for you.....

Mixing is an art and requires significant skills.............

First I want to make sure you are not making a common false assumption that one can remix a song that has already been produced. You can't un-bake a cake.

Remixing a song requires the original tracks of audio and midi that were used in the final mixdown.

Having acess to these tracks, go at it with
Pro Tools
Nuendo
Cubase
Cakewalk
Acid
Digital Performer
Logic
N-Track
Aurdor (for Linux)

or any other multitracking sofware.

But there is way more than just the software applications that goes into mixing a song.

Good luck icon_cool.gif

I was in one of the leading studios of Finland about a year ago and the guy in there told that someone tried to make a software that could brake songs into tracks, but I'm not sure about the program or the fact that did it really do it.

It would be hard thing to accomplish.

Not hard, impossible!

The most a person could do is break a wave into 'frequency' tracks, but you could not isolate instruments... not to mention effects.

Yep I gotta bring up the 'baking a cake' analogy.

Once it's been through the oven, you can't un-do it.

Just for conversation sake, and I spoke of this device about an hour ago in another forum, I know of a device that will break down music from cd. Basically, the device will cut out vocals, drums, guitars, basses, whatever. It is truly an amazing device and this technology isnt new either. I originally saw the device at music castle in Shelby Twp. Michigan in 1999.

I can only immagine technology of this sort escalating. 7 years have passed and I would say this device has been streamlined and is probably very unique. SO, if your interested in remixing as I was back in the day then go to one of your local hardware dealers and inquire about such a device.

P.s. this is a rack mountable device with a built in cd player it isnt a computer program.

p.s.s. I read the original post and yes there are tons of mixers out there on the web. I would check out www.shareware.com for a basic mixer and work up from there. Do a search for audio mixer in whatever format you desire (windows/Mac.)

Complete nonsense....

While I'm sure you saw some sort of device, I can virtually guarantee it's not capable of what you think it is....
