Upside down?

Here is a question I have always wondered..

Why do some people hang the microphone upside down while recording vocals?

Several possible reasons:

1) For tube mics (epsecially older ones), heat won't rise up to the capsule and potentially affecting the diaphragm....

2) There is a slight phsychological benefit for singers to sing slightly upwards to reach pitch....

3) Visibility -- it keeps the mic out of the way of music or lyric sheets....

Very interesting points BB!

My main mike is a tube microphone, but it seems the tube is low enough to not reach the diaphragm, but that is a very very viable point!

I agree with #2, so I always position the microphone where they need to reach..

#3 is also good point. I also thought it might have to do with sound reflection, but not sure on that one. Thanks for the info and thoughts!
