Compressing channels differently with DirectX plugins

Hello,

How can I compress two (stereo) channels differently using SoundForge and DirectX plugins like Waves' C4, etc? I did not find a method yet to do this.
Anybody here that knows a way to do this?

soundforge

Soundforge lets you work with the left and right channels or a stereo file independently. So just select only the left channel and apply the compression, then select the right channel and apply the other.

I'm still using version 4.5 with no real-time fx. I don't know if the newer ones let you use real-time fx?

That appears indeed to be a way to do it.

I like to work with DirectX plugins, chained together with the plugin chainer provided by Soundforge. In that situation I do not have the choice to process just one channel. (!?)
I could use the method you descrive but then I lose the overall sound preview method and I also have the chance of losing resolution due to multiple operations on 16-bit audio.
A simple DirectX plugin that bypasses e.g. the compressor for one channel or the other would be easiest here.

Anyone here knows a solution?
