You can play with consumer-oriented crap all you like[...]
As you might not recall, this whole topic is refering to a new guy wanting some info on laptop recording. The fact that he is looking at the phonix firewire stuff makes it pretty clear that he's looking for something on a consumer level. So if you would like to talk big boy toys, then find the appropriate thread! Oh and take your know-it-all, closeminded, stuck-up, rolling eyes and shove them up your ass while your at it. Oh, and just some advice for the future: Just because it's expensive, doesn't make it that much better. <-- A common mistake made by beginners. But nice try. I commend the effort.

So for all your "years" of experience, you've learned that there's no difference between consumer-oriented gear and pro gear?? All that expereince served you well then, eh?
Talk to me when you know something, skippy - otherwise, go back to enjoying your Phonic... _________________ Bruce Valeriani - Mix Engineer

Y'know this discussion is a waste of space. The days of studio owners impressing anybody with their "Pro" gear is long over. If you hope that people are going to think you're a "happening studio" just because you invested in this $14,000 dinosaur, then more power to ya. Maybe that backward approach still works in Ottawa, Canada. but most professionals who make real money doing this have moved on. SOUND is what matters and IF you know how, you can make a recording done with an Mbox or a Phonic Helix mixer and a laptop sound as good as anything your DMXR can do. I used to work at Sweetwater when they sold a couple DMXR's to the few fools a year who bought them, what a scam. I guess Sony builds them just for guys like you.
Hiding behind expensive gear and putting down people that aren't as gullible as you shows a real lack of class.

I can not understand why you no longer work for Sweetwater, since you have great people skills. I can also see you have incredible technical genius, it has far surpassed all others here who have figured out how NOT to double post.

WOW, if you can read and follow a logical discussion, please tell me when and where I put Blue Bear down?
Wait, you better get back inside... Recess is almost over, and middle school teachers do not like it when students are late.

Oops sorry, I confused you for the other poster, someone with an actual brain. I agree, recess would be a lot more fun than trading meaningless drivel with you. Why does everyone who posts on this site have such a f------ up attitude?
Obviously putting down gear/ other posters & bragging about what you wasted your money on is what you dudes are into.
Have at it, I'm going to play dodge ball!

Yet another fuckwit with no discernible audio skills -- and to have worked at a dealer and not learned a thing about gear either.... no surprise... _________________ Bruce Valeriani - Mix Engineer

I have been reading this incredible slugfest of a thread with some amusement! I used to work as a video engineer for Snell & Wilcox until I moved to New Zealand. I now have a need for a small PC interfaced mixer to help record some of my stepdaughter's concerts plus have some sampling fun. I just want the best bang for my poor NZ dollar plus the best S/N - and future proof sample rate.
The phonic site appears to be down as well. Is the Phonic FW much better than the USB. Will it record at 96k? Why do none of the mixers use USB2 anyway? Rather than merely rubbish the phonic (which seems like reasonable value - and lets face it, its all made in china these days) what should I be looking at??

I'm currently on the verge of buying one of these (most probably anyway). I was also looking at the Alesis Multimix 16, which is pretty similar but judging by other forum posts I've found is suffering from severly buggy ASIO drivers.
I think this may actually be a more significant point. If the Phonic's audio quality isn't great (and it probably isn't going to be pro-studio quality for this money) then that can at least be worked around to some extent. But if the firewire interface or drivers are buggy then it will result in the frustrating user experience users of the Alesis seem to be experiencing (many of which have now returned it under warranty). If Phonic are using more well-established firewire hardware, then one would assume that this is less likely to happen.
Anyway, just my 10 penneth. I'll try to remember to post when I've received it.

Check out mAudio products, they are decent quality for a decent price.

Wow, what a bunch of ego maniacs here.
I would get a Motu firewire interface. You could get the 828 used for $300.
Also, I get the feeling that someone who posted on this thread works for Phonic because his posting is word for word copied from the Phonic's website FAQ. Give me a break!!
