Surround for Film Question
I am about to start mix down of a short film. I have just about everything figured out (this is my first sound for picture, and second 5.1 mix). Everything will be recorded at 24bit, 48kHz. Questions:
1. What is the SOL for "film". For instance, where would you place 0VU? For an audio mix it is -15dFS, -12, or even -18. Is it different for film? I hear the "American Standard" is -20dBFS.
2. More importantly, what is the typical dynamic range for "film" (when I say film, I mean DVD!) If the loudest sound (a gunshot) is 0dBFS (for instance) what should spoken dialog be?
4. Do these numbers differ from a stereo mix to a 5.1 mix? (I'll be doing both)
3. Am I in the wrong forum for this? If so, any suggestions?
Cheers,
Jambrose
