Sound Professionals SP-PSM-3

Hi!
I'm looking for budget a stereo microphone for field recordings.
I'm thinking of buying the sony emc 957. but the sound professionals SP-PSM-3 mic

looks interesting to me ... better frequency response.
also the beyerdynamic mce 72 looks good.
anyone got experience with one of those microphones (sond pro and beyerdynamic)?

I had been looking for a field recording rig myself when I decided on an iRiver 799t and a SP-PSM-3 mic. It turned out to be a good choice. I play and record mostly Bluegrass so I needed a mic that would sound good on mando and banjo and such. I think the SP-PSM-3 does a fine job...

Below is a link to a recording I made at a jam... the mic was in the center of a circle of pickers, none of which where much closer than 4 feet or so. The SP-PSM-3 picked up the instruments well but should have been higher to catch more of the vocal. I was very happy with how musical the banjo and mandolins sounded.

Hope this helps...

Hi!

I have used Sony ECM979 together with SONY DAT TCD-D8 many years. I really like the sound of that mic, very clean. I have recorded everything from camels in deserts, street musicians, lecturers in big presentation halls and so on. The best thing with ECM 979 is a pot on the front which lets you play with the stereo field you are recording. The pot can be set from 0 to 150 degrees, 0 means mono. This lets you cut of sounds from the angles letting you focus your recording, taking away for example traffic noise from the sides when recording a guy singing on the streetwalk.

I dont know though about the SONY 957 I suppose its the smaller version of the ECM 979. I think the 979 is outdated but maybe you can find one second hand.

Maybe not so much help but anyway....
