what kind of interface should i buy?

i used to have an Aardvark Q10 10-input that i was happy with, but they went under. (if anyone wants it, i'll send it to you...)

now i'm thinking of either a MOTU Traveller or 828 (8-input), a cheaper M-Audio 4-input breakout box, or something else.

i can spend up to $1000, but i'm thinking of recording drums with only 3 mics. so i'm not sure if i would need to go up to the 8-input MOTU. i am very concerned about sound quality though. would the MOTU be better in sound quality? is there any other product i should consider?

thanks, j
