Music Software Suggestions

I'm looking for a program that'll let me make music on it. My knowledge as far as instruments and notes is just a smidge above none, I have a guitar but no idea how to do anything except strum it, and make all the pretty sounds go together nice. I want a program that lets me make the music without having to add any material from real instruments played and recorded, I simply dont have the resources or enough time to learn how to play and practice instruments (not my fault there arent more hours in a day).

I downloaded the demo version of fruity loops, I only know how to do a couple of things so that coupled with it being a demo im not really sure how far I can take this program, like what I want to do is make some music for some videos. Any tips would be great to

Hi,

there are a number of options but I must say that if you learn a bit about music it will really help. I would recommend both music theory (notes, scales, chords etc.) and some rhythm (get a basic drumming book and learn a bit about how rythms are constructed). I started where you are and I found this invaluable. It also improved my understanding of the guitar and how to use it.

Really basic stuff like 'Band in a box' is good for starting from scratch and will give you something to play along with as well.

Acid is another looping tool and a free version (Acid Express) is available for download. Go to http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/download/freestuff.asp to get it.
You will also see a link to Acid Planet where you can get free packs of tracks. Good to see what other do and get ideas for how to start.

Good luck,

Ray
