But at which level should particular effects be processed?
For example, should i adjust the panning of the tracks individually right after recording them, or wait and apply such effects just before the final mix? _________________ Either my way, or the highway...

Panning and effects are usually mix-decisions.... _________________ Bruce Valeriani - Mix Engineer

Thank you for the reply.
But, as being understood from my question, i'm an alien to these issues. I'm just recording the bass for the pieces i compose, through my soundcard, into cubase sx and arrange the brass parts by using hypersonic. Thus, i'm not waiting to see a real good result. But, as a matter of fact, i'm a musician, and access to knowledge on such issues would be great for me. Even if my knowledge will remain just on theoretical level.
In short, i'm in need of basic information on "audio" subject, such as "how to" apply ... effect, or "when" or "why".
So, i'd appreciate if you can link me to proper information on the net, if there is any.
Regards,
Emre. _________________ Either my way, or the highway...

I think its really a matter of what helps you best when making the decision on when you should start adding effects, panning and so on. For me, I like to start mixing as I record. It helps me groove better when things sound better and when things are in place in the stereo field. If I do drums first I will start to pan, do a little EQ and maybe even reverb too before I dig in with the guitar and vocals or whatever is next. Then you can make changes later on after everything has been recorded. Nothing is final anyways until you decide to mix it all down.
