Yamaha I88X

I'm planning to purchase Yamaha I88X (8 channel, 2 XLR & 6 TRS, $ 399). I've done research about this pre-amp. It's pretty neat one. It's actually using MLan as the connection. My question is...is MLan actually just a regular firewire or do I need to buy a PCI board for it (like how MOTU 24 I/O works...need a PCI-242 card...) ?

It uses a standard firewire cable and connection.
It's basically just using the IEEE1394 protocol to network devices instead of just connecting one device to a computer.
