is acid pro4 any good?
also i was wondering when my band and i record we can only record on 1 track. i wan't it so that the guitars, bass, and all the drum mics are a different track. at the moment we have a yahmahaa 8 channel mixer (ill post the model #) and we plug it into the mic input on his sound card. is that what your sopost to do or is there something that is sopost to be inbetween or a special sound card, what do we do?
i can post some pics if i didn't do a good job of explaining.
thanks, Kyle

If you wish to record 8 things simultanesouly and have them recorded on individual tracks, for more control, you will need a sound card (interface) with 8 inputs. _________________ Recording Studio Suntans

what would be better, a interface card w/8 inputs or a firepod?
also, is a firepod good? are there other products that do the same thing but cheaper?

In order to do what you are wanting to do, (record multiple tracks) you first of all need a multi track software. Cubase, Cakewalk, Nuendo, Protools are some really good ones. As far as using your soundcard......well that's a whole other story. You can actually do this but there are many problems.....one is that there is significant noise between your 1/8'' jack and sound card that will produce that airy scratch sound you probably hear. Another is your mixer is probably going to send to much power to the sound card creating distortion. Now I don't know what kinda quality you are looking for but if this is somthing you plan on sending as a demo your going to need some quality. In order to get quality sounding material you have to have an usb or firewire interface. This device is somewhat like a mixer but it sends digital data to your recording software (not thru the airy scracthy soundcard). Now you need to decide what type of interface. If your going to just be recording vocals and guitars then somthing like a tascam us-112 would do or if you want to go into protools then a m-audio firewire solo would be a nice choice. Now if your looking to record drums your going to have to dig into your wallet a bit. Your going to need at least 8 mono inputs because each piece of the drums toms, symbols, kick, etc. have to each be recorded on a seperate track. The best for the buck interface for this would be like a tascam us-428. Also.....if you do get this far make sure you use a noise gate and compressor on those drums mainly the snare and kick. Be picky when choosing your mics as they have tremendous amounts of influence on the quality of vocals and acoustic guitar. Well I hope this has been helpfull to you and I hope you can get things goin.
