Real time tape editing

how can i do real time tape editing?

If i have a waveform going into the input how can it cut the
waveform up into slices and pieces?

what device do i need to do this?

How can a device get a waveform and cut it up to have different
Attacks, and decays, sustains, release, recifie the waveform?

You can't do "real time tape editing", it is impossible.

ADSR

you want to cut a waveform into separate pieces based on the attack, decay, sustain and release? It's hard enough to do that while scrubbing a tape! but you can try swiping a razorblade at a reel of tape moving at 30 inches per second if you want icon_biggrin.gif

real-time

real-time means that it happens as the audio is playing back. you can't get so detailed as to divide a waveform into its four parts like that while it's playing back. when we refer to a real-time effect, it usually has nothing to do with editing, but rather with an effects plug-in. It means that instead of selecting some audio and applying reverb, you just let the reverb plug-in run on an insert on the entire track. that way you can adjust the reverb settings as you listen to it in real-time.

what you want to do is bring up the waveform in your edit window of the DAW and zoom way in an make your split points. then you can drag or edit or process each and any of those regions however you want.

Isn't Audio Masking like cutting parts up in masks?

Good post Uncle...

Now as you Walters asked about tape editing, remember a tape machine moves, it is a revolving item, therefore IMPOSSIBLE to EDIT in real-time. This is a good lesson to learn in that editing is not processing. Editing is typically a permanent change, therefore not possible in real time, as editing tape, means to cut it, or stick it back together.

Audio Masking is nothing to do with Tape Editing, as I told you before.

Go here to study audio masking:

I'm closing this thread now.
