How to make me the best Sound Engineer of our time?

After extensive soul searching i have finally decided to make my passion my career. Now here's the catch, I am doing mechanical engineering, India (pune university). Most importantly I want to do it in the best way possible! Want to be 100% sure that this couldn't have been done in any better possible way. WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE ME DO TO MAKE ME THE BEST SOUND ENGINEER OF THIS AGE?!

(also please answer these also)
Q1. After having a degree in Bachelors of engineering (average marks) my next step is internship/degree from an institute?
Q2. If internship, then how long, and if degree, then from where(institutes)?
(i guess I'll have to do it abroad but, budget will be constrained)
Q3. Credibility of an internship / a degree.
Q4. Top institutes for acoustic engineering? (don't just want a shiny certificate, a place where i will have a holistic development)
Q5. What must one do to make his career incline towards live audio engineering(foh/monitor/sound reinforcement etc)?
Q6. I play an instrument, but have zero theoretical knowledge, ie reading sheet, bars, counts etc, does it help in long run to have this under one's belt?
Q7 Have a very poor music scene, very few production houses, recording studios, gigs etc here in Bombay. This reduces my chances to get a good internship, job etc, should i rethink this career option considering my location?
Q8 This one is for the elderly, those that are settled in the audio industry, I would be lying if i said that i don't care one bit about the financial aspect and am doing it as a passion, being honest here guys, how does the financial scene look from your end?
Q9 ok i got my internship, degree etc etc etc, hmmm WHAT NOW?

(i know its really extensive, can't help it, making a life altering decision here!)

fmy problem : I am in the process of completing my bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, wish i had taken electrical.

What i really wanted to know was, how do you guys weigh internship and a degree. If i get a degree it'll be a 2nd bachelors degree, since i get my mechanical degree in sometime. Worth it to get another bachelor's degree? My head is tearing apart, can't make up my mind. On one hand i don't want to throw my mech degree just for the fact that i spent so many years of my life in ass scraping, not that i love the subject. 2nd, want to get into sound also at the same time, 3rd, if sound, do i take a short sighted decision of doing a degree, for it give some sort of comfort coz there's path, and i know i have to walk along it. Or go out and take a chance and do it the right way, interning, right from cleaning the toilets to polishing the shoes.
what will you have me do? Help!

The best thing for you to do is finish up your degree.

While finishing degree volunteer, work, beg and plead someone to give u some experience in a real studio or try doing some live engineering.

Once you have done that save up some money, as much as you can.

Fly to England.

Study at SAE.

Get top marks.

Try and find a job working in a good studio.

Its going to take a lot of work and a lot of passion to get where you want man. You can do it thou. The biggest dreams are usually the ones that can be achieved because everyone else is too scared to dream big and then do it.

Hope that helped. You'll probably get a lot of bs from people who have too much time. Just ignore then.

Peace.

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Contact the people at College of Creative Arts and Technologies in Melbourne, Australia.

talk to Neil, the head of the College or Jeremy head of the Audio Engineering course.

organise to study here for 2 years.

show your skills and qualifications to ANY studo in Australia and get hired and make money.

from there you can approach the bands you end up recording and ask them to take you on tour.

tour and make money.

from there on you can travel anywhere and find work.

That's what i'm doing, i've been here for the last 8 months i'm working with an Audio, lighting and Visual hire company and i get to tour around Australia.

I'm also assistant engineer at Sonic Sound Studios and i'm going to be Assistant engineer at the upcoming AC/DC shows in Feburary 2010.

CCAT is the way to go!
