obviously i am not an expert (evident in my number of posts) but since no one else has posted i may be able to help you start. i have a dell e1505 laptop that i use as my basis of recording. software wise protools is kind of the standard. I use ProTools m powered, it is compatable with most m audio interfaces and is quite easy to use. i know the college i will be going to requires this form of protools from all students. i have a few mikes, some instrument cables, and of course instruments. piano, guitar, amplifiers, etc. Pro tools also comes with an easy basic manual for getting started. i hope this may help you somewhat. Musiciansfriend.com used to offer a package with the software, mic, cables, stands, and interface. great price but i dont know if it is still available. make sure your pc is compatable. good luck.
