Sound Cards and Firewire.

I'm looking to get a PC that will record my keyboard clearly. I like the set up in general better for PC's but I noticed a mac I used for recording, after my latest PC blew up, picked things up much more clear without background distortion. I would like to achieve this same effect with a PC, as I dislike Macs OS and don't want to go down that road for myself. Is there some specific sound card I could go with that that will record my keyboard clearly? Also I would like to be able to record vocals as well, would simply going with a M-audio firewire preamp be the best choice and if so does that mean I wouldn’t have to spend so much on the sound card as I could bypass it or does the sound card effect firewire produced audio as well?
