 Keyboard periodically goes nuts like a loading spectrum pc

I have a Yamaha EZ-150 Keyboard hooked up to the PC using a plug and play USB MIDI lead.

I have been using various different programs with this but I have found that when Outputting to the Keyboard every so often the Keyboard makes a noise like an old spectrum loading and the computer program freezes.

Turning the keyboard off and on dosent solve it the only solution is to hoik out the usb lead and put it back in. This also causes whatever program im using to crash.
