Short Stack Kits
Hey guys, quick question. Are short stack kits alright for recording? I am looking at a Superstar SL Hyperdrive which is a short stack kit, 6 ply snare and toms and 7 ply bass drum, birch plies except for the inner ply is basswood. I'm hoping it will sound alright (I know that any kit properly tuned can sound decent, I'm going more for a comparison of short stack to deep based on the same tuning). Thanks in advance for the help! _________________ Bob Seifert, SEIT

If you like the sound, use it. Period.
EDIT: I missed your question about "In the same tuning ... a short kit will not sound as good in the same tuning, but here is a trick I learned several years back, if you tune a short stack kit 1/3 to 1/5 lower (depending on the size) than you tune a normal kit, you will not only NOT notice a difference, but will swear that it can not be a short kit.
